Too Busy For God?

We always make time for what seems most important to us. But what about God? When things are great we don’t think about Him much. But when things start falling apart – finances get tight – our job is at risk – corona virus is knocking at our door – we can’t meet our bills – we did something we were ashamed of - or our partner leaves us. That is when we turn to God and scream “how could you let this happen to me”?

There is a poem that I love: FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine and one was the Lord’s. When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand, and, to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there were only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. I asked the Lord about it: “Lord you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints, I don’t understand why you left my side when I needed you the most.” The Lord said: “My precious child, I never left you during your time of trial. Where you see only one set of footprints, I was carrying you.” If you don’t have an ongoing relationship with God it is like that person you have been meaning to call but always forget. Then one day you really need that person but are ashamed to call because so much time had elapsed. God is always there for us but on our side it is a broken connection. There WILL BE times in life that you won’t get through without God’s help. It is life. We all have situations that are too much to bear alone. We are made with a space that is only the size and shape of God built into us. The hole can only be filled with God. Without Him our lives are never quite complete. God is the air around us, the life in every direction we look. The people, the plants, the animals. God created everything in this world including us.

How do you “repair” your connecting wires? Just start talking with Him. He has been waiting for you to turn to Him. No recriminations – only love, support, strength and encouragement. Try it today and you will see exactly what I mean.
